Description
When teachers implement the project approach to learning, young children can follow their own real-world interests to gain deeper understanding. Children wonder about a topic, formulate their questions, and then figure out the answers for themselves in their own way.
The project approach helps children dig deeply into intellectual and social experiences that can help them see meaningful benefits of the skills they are acquiring. Picturing the Project Approach will lead teachers every step of the way toward incorporating this teaching method in any toddler, preschool or elementary classroom. Teachers will learn how to:
Identify a topic
Decide on a project
Develop the project
Share the learning
Bring the project to a close
Review Highlights:
I knew I'd love this book after I finished reading the author's viewpoint of academic vs. intellectual development. These are KEY concepts for any teacher or educator, but unfortunately, very few can distinguish these qualities. Even more importantly when it comes to curriculum design very little importance is given to intellectual development. It is all test-based academic development these days. Both are important for sure, but to be able to discuss both ideas during the intro will help any educator with thinking about teaching, curriculum design, and lesson planning in particular.
Although I teach older children, the author reminded me of so many things I've not thought about for years. I lean on open-ended projects using rubrics as well as academic development. Because of this book, I came to the realization that I should bring in a couple of thematic units in the months to come.
Thank you for letting me review this fantastic book! Two thumbs up!
