Our family loves to explore new board games and the simplicity of this game made it one of our favorites, especially for my nine year old sea-loving daughter!

Players learn about various sea life as they use skills of strategy to form groups of four or more (and to prevent others from forming into their groups). Basic board game playing skills are also developed - taking turns, moving and manipulating game pieces, keeping score.

The recommended age for the board game, Rolling Tides, is 8+. So, having limited time but wanting to get our family together for a game night, I handed the game over to my nine year old daughter to figure out and set up. Within fifteen minutes she had read through the instructions, had set up the game board and was ready to explain to everyone else the rules of the game. The simplicity of the game made it fun for everyone - there was no stress over trying to figure out if we were playing the game the intended way!

Rolling Tides comes with one main board that most of the action takes place on and then four smaller boards in which players keep their tokens on (the number of tokens indicates the number of points a player has). The only other game piece are the dice that are used each turn to both roll and to mark your position on the main game board. I found this great because the limited number of pieces involved means easy set-up, and easy clean-up. Our family loves board games, but often do not have the time for them. Rolling Tides is great because it really only takes about thirty minutes to play. And, if you want it to last longer, you simply play another round. The adaptability of this game made it perfect for "our on-the-go" family. Each individual game card has facts on the back-side about various sea life. These facts are very interesting - things that my daughter did not know despite her love of zoology.

Players enjoyed the game and developed planning skills and developed strategies to win. They learned about tide pools animals. The game was colorful and appealing to children.
