Description
Vocab Delivery - Chinese vocabulary learning game package is a board game targeting 4-8 year old children designed by Heep Hong Society's Speech therapist team & coordinated by the Society's Communication Department.
Metaphorically, the process of vocabulary learning is likened to a journey of delivering gourmet dishes. Through interactive parent-child questioning and answering, questions are set in six common Chinese vocabulary categories. This vocabulary journey unfolds through four different games, challenging players to acquire more oral vocabulary and to improve vocabulary knowledge.
There are several elements of the board game set, including 2 Game boards, 63 Tokens, 4 Pawns, 180 Playing cards, 1 Instruction booklet, 1 Bell, and 2 Dice.
Here are the game rules. It is divided into four games according to different difficulty levels. First, in the Sushi restaurant, players have to compete in a fast-paced riddle-solving game. Guess the object to earn question cards, and the one with the most question cards wins! Second, in the milk tea shop, players have to compete to quickly ring the bell, naming the specified number of words to earn the same number of pearls, and the first to fill their teacup is the winner! Third, in the dim sum restaurant, players have to describe the object, and if their description is correct, they earn a topic card. The one with the most points is the winner! Forth, all players will compete in the final game where they will become a delivery driver, swiftly delivering food to customers' homes. Players who answer questions correctly get a chance to roll the delivery dice. Along the way, they'll encounter various surprises or obstacles. Let's see who can deliver the takeout to customers the fastest!
Regarding the background of children's language development, listening, speaking, reading, and writing all involve vocabulary comprehension and usage. During the process of language development, children continuously expand their vocabulary in terms of quantity and categories. Their understanding of the relationship between vocabulary and semantics also grows. These abilities manifest in three aspects: convergent naming, divergent naming, and vocabulary definition.
Convergent Naming: This is like a guessing game where children provide answers based on specific categories and characteristics. For example, "An animal with black and white fur, large black eye patches, and loves to eat bamboo". The answer is "panda".
Divergent Naming: In this activity, children enumerate vocabulary based on given criteria like category and characteristics. For example, for "an animal with four legs", children might list "cow", "dog", "horse", and so on.
Vocabulary Definition: In this task, children need to explain the specific meaning of a vocabulary word, typically including the category name and describing the features or functions of the object. For instance, "A raincoat is a piece of clothing, mostly made of plastic. People wear it when it's raining". This activity requires children to have a certain level of language and cognitive skills.
Note: The game and instructions are currently only in Chinese.
Review Highlights:
Designed to promote the vocabulary development of Chinese children, the theme of the four board games is food delivery. Foundational thinking skills are a key component of each game where students answer riddles, describe common objects, practice reading fluency and learn vocabulary. The games are effective at helping early learners understand the words they possess in their mental repository and teaching them to use them appropriately.
