How many coconuts can your team of monkeys win? Roll the dice and strategically place your individual monkeys on the coconut trees to take control of the delicious coconuts. But be careful! Other monkey teams are trying to do the same thing, so you could end up with no coconuts! Teaches addition, decision making, and predicting. Perfect for ages 8 and up.

Review Highlights:

It was easy enough for my younger kids (ages 4+) to play, but still fun enough for a wide variety of ages to play (4-10).

Children learn a lot about strategy in this game, evaluating and comparing different options to defeat other players. They develop observation and sequential thinking skills, employ prediction/assumption to figure out their opponents next move, and practice mental modelling much like in chess. Basic addition is also practiced.

This game provides the opportunity to learn the following skills while following the directions in the guide included in the game box: counting, addition, decision-making, planning, predicting, problem-solving, comparing/contrasting, risk vs. reward, memory, teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination. The game can also be adapted to teach many other skills including, but not limited to, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

My favorite characteristic of this product is the adaptability that it allows. I have six children ages 6-11 that are all working at different skill levels. Two of my children have been diagnosed with Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, Visual-Perceptual Disorder, Sensory Integration Disorder, and Childhood Apraxia of Speech. This is a game that can be easily adapted so that all of my children can play alongside their siblings. I can choose to have everyone play on teams so everyone can play at once, or I can play against just one child in order to create a one-on-one learning environment focused on practicing a specific skill or set of skills. This may be a "math" game, but there are so many other skills that can be practiced while playing this game.

I also love Simply Fun's amazing website. They provide you with so many different options on ways to adapt this game to fit your children. The website also explains the different skills that are being practiced while playing the game.

Durability is another key feature of this product. The game board and coconut pieces are made from a very thick material that feels very durable and the monkey pieces are made of plastic. The easy-to-grasp game pieces are also very fun and colorful.
