Description

LATICE HAWAII combines simple rules with evolving complexity for a unique game that's easy to learn, quick to play, with strategic potential to last a lifetime. Be the first to play all of your tiles. Play faster by matching tiles on two or more sides, landing on sun squares or using wind tiles to shift tiles on the board. Advanced players will play both offensively and defensively based on their knowledge of remaining tiles. 3 minutes to learn, 20 minutes to play, a lifetime to master.

Review Highlights:

This is a beautiful game. The colors and the graphics are eye-catching and stunning. It is a great beginning game for building a child's conception of strategy and critical thinking. The approach of the game helps a child to order and organize as well as compare and contrast as they determine how to lay the tiles according to the rules and in order to obtain the rocks which give them more turns. The complexity makes the game interesting for older kids, while still being understandable for younger kids. Each game creates a new challenge because the pieces each player gets is different each time they play. There are video and paper instructions to help you get started but the paper instructions were sufficient. For me, as a mom, the best part is that the pieces are put away in the box so neatly and tightly--the pieces don't fall out when the game box is tipped on it's side! There are no baggies that fall apart after two uses--there is a molded plastic container to hold everything together. Thank you Adacio for thinking that through! My kids' friends all ask us to bring the game wherever we go!

Students enjoyed playing this game. They practiced good sportsmanship, critical thinking skills, strategy, compare/contrast, taking turns, teamwork, and other social skills. It was engaging and fun to play.

This game involves the skills of matching, placing items in a grid, picturing what will happen if a tile is moved (visualization and strategy), concentration / focus, and taking turns. The product itself was sturdy and durable (thick cardboard game board and plastic tiles). Instructions were colorful, and a how to play video is also available for those who'd rather learn by watching. The game was fun, and the wind tiles add some suspense and strategy.

Latice Hawaii game play is pretty straightforward - you place tiles on the board, and they must match the tile(s) you set them next to in either color or design. Each player keeps 5 tiles face up in front of them during the game, and replaces them from their personal "pool" each turn. The goal is to be the first to run out of tiles. The unique features are the wind tiles, which move a tile one space to the side, and the stones, which are earned from placing a tile that hooks in with 2 or more other tiles. They still must match by color or shape with all tiles they touch. There are also instructions for some variations, so once you master the main game you still have some options to shake things up.

The game was rated for 6+, which I'd say is pretty accurate. My opponents were eleven, and that was an excellent age to learn and strategize. Play time is pretty quick - 30 minutes or so. The box includes a game board, stones, tiles, and instructions. There are also stands for 4 players to hold tiles, and a minute timer. Everything is sturdy and high quality - game board is heavy cardboard, and the tiles are plastic with stickers - this game will definitely last. They also have a video available to watch - so you can learn to play without reading through the directions. An excellent option, especially for those with younger kids or who don't care for reading. This game is fun and fast paced, and will also build strategy and focus skills. And, it could be played even with a few missing pieces - nice if you have a busy household or younger kids!

Even as an adult, I like playing this game. Although strategy is a huge element of this game, age does not matter once a child knows that winning means playing as many tiles as possible each turn. I like the level playing field this game offers in that way.
