Build equations and add them onto the playing field using all four basic operators: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Sumology is a fast-paced tile placement game that crosses math and Scrabble. Players ages 8 and up take turns playing tiles to build equations by combining new and existing tiles. This game will sharpen your child's math skills and teach them to think on their feet and strategize to score as many points as possible.
Review Highlights:
This game come is a high quality wooden box and has colorful, durable tiles. It's not flimsy. Sumology incorporates all four math operations, along with strategy, critical thinking, and problem solving. This game would be good for a teacher to place in their math center, but also for families to play at home for an educational yet fun experience. It's a good alternative to math books/workbooks for tactile learners who need hands-on experience.
This game is very well made using quality materials that will last. Both my students and my family had fun playing the game, allowing for strategic thinking and reinforcing basic operations.
The optimal age for the game is probably 3rd and 4th grade, though younger kids could play with a little parental help (or by pulling out the multiplication/division tiles). Older kids could use it to practice the order of operations.
Math skills, specifically those within the Common Core State Standards domain of Operations and Algebraic Thinking, are practiced during the game.
